This Cinnamon Apple Old Fashioned uses a homemade Cinnamon Simple Syrup which is incredibly easy to make and brings both the sweetness and cinnamon flavor.

Old fashioned cocktail recipes have been making a comeback lately!

They are simple to make and a great balance of flavors.

Don’t let the use of bitters scare you. It does not make the drink taste bitter, but rather balances everything out.

Cinnamon Simple Syrup

I prefer to use a homemade Cinnamon Simple Syrup for this Cinnamon Apple Old Fashioned.

You can use a plain simple syrup instead, and add a dash or two of ground cinnamon.

But I found that the cinnamon syrup had a stronger flavor that held up to the rest of the ingredients.

Making Cocktails for a Crowd

You can easily whip up a larger batch of these old fashioned cocktails for a crowd or party and easy entertaining!

Simple multiply the ingredients by the number you want to make.

Combine the simple syrup, apple juice, bitters, orange peels, and whiskey in a pitcher or serving container.

Set up the glasses, ice, and even a garnish station as desired with more orange peels.

Fun additions: make a little sign explaining what it is, and include club soda, apple juice, or another neutral mixer for those that want to weaken their drink.

That is it! Now everyone can pour themselves the cocktail all night while you enjoy your company.

If you have never had an Old Fashioned before, it tends to be on the strong side.

So if you want a weaker drink, more like a traditional cocktail, just add some additional liquid.

I like to add more apple juice or apple cider. Something neutral like a tonic or club soda would work well and also give you some fizz.

Notes

Cinnamon simple syrup is best, and easy to make, but can be substituted for regular simple syrup and a dash or two of ground cinnamon.
Use a vegetable peeler on an orange (or tangerine, etc) for an easy, thick orange peel.
Make this cocktail for a crowd! Increase the ingredients to the number of drinks you want (use the servings adjustment above for auto-calculation). Combine the simple syrup, apple juice, bitters, orange peels, and whiskey in a pitcher or serving container. Set out ice and glasses for pouring.
