Homemade Chipotle Crema Sauce is a fast and easy way to elevate your sour cream! A great Mexican recipe with smoky flavors that is perfect as a topping for your tacos or other Mexican foods.
8 ounces sour cream, 1 ½ Tablespoons chipotle in adobo sauce, 1 Tablespoon lime juice, ¼ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon salt
If desired, add water for a thinner consistency more similar to a real crema. Adjust heat as desired (see note 2 and 3).
water
Chill at least 30 minutes, ideally, for flavors to combine.
Notes
You can use just the sauce from a can/jar of chipotle in adobo. If desired, you can also finely chop up some of the actual chipotle peppers to add (SO good). The diced peppers can be measured with, or in addition to, of the sauce based on heat preference.
This recipe will yield a mild to mild-medium heat, based on brand. Make spicier by adding more chipotle in adobo, whether the sauce or finely diced peppers.
If you want the same flavor but less heat, use half the amount of chipotle in adobo and then add 1/2 teaspoon ground paprika. The paprika will give you the same smoky flavor without heat.
This also tastes great with some finely chopped fresh cilantro mixed in (if you are a fan)!
