Fresh popcorn is incredibly fast and easy to make.  And my favorite part about it is that you can make up so many unique flavor combinations!  This Homemade Parmesan Garlic Popcorn uses canned, ground Parmesan cheese and garlic powder for an Italian twist full of flavor.  Find more popcorn recipes here!

Great for party entertaining and game day. #homemadepopcorn #gamedayrecipesTo make Homemade Parmesan Garlic Popcorn, first pop the popcorn.  I like to do this on the stove by adding the kernels and some oil in a large stock pot.  Heat over medium heat and let the popping begin!  It only takes around 5-10 minutes.  Meanwhile make the seasoning by combining the Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, parsley, black pepper, and salt.  Adjust the flavor to taste.  When the popcorn is ready, drizzle the popcorn with a little oil so that the seasoning sticks, stir to coat, add the Parmesan mixture, and stir again.

Instructions

  • Cook the popcorn as per package directions, or as follows: Add the oil to a large, 3 quart or larger pot over medium heat. Add the popcorn kernels and cover, with the lid ajar.
  • Shake the pot back and forth every few minutes. Remove from the heat when the popping has slowed and most kernels are popped, approximately 7 minutes. Set aside.
  • While the popcorn is popping, make the seasoning mixture by combining the Parmesan, garlic powder, parsley, and salt. Mix to combine and adjust seasoning to taste.
  • When ready to serve, lightly drizzle the popcorn with approximately 1 teaspoon of oil. Just enough to wet the popcorn without it getting greasy or soggy. Stir to coat. Immediately sprinkle the seasoning on the popcorn and stir again to coat. Serve immediately.

Notes

It is best to use a neutral oil with no flavor like vegetable or canola oil.
I am normally a big fan of fresh parmesan, however the ground canned version is best for this recipe.
Make a large batch of the seasoning to have on hand!

To ensure a truly vegetarian popcorn, make sure the Parmesan you use is vegetarian.
