Sometimes, I just don’t know what to flavor things with. There are so many options, and finding a perfect flavor combination can be tricky. I love to have some flavored salts on standby to use any time. This Spicy Cocoa Espresso Flavored Salt is one of my favorites!
These flavors were originally inspired by a fun and unique steak rub, which I used as an idea for these Spicy Coca Espresso Roasted Chickpeas. The flavors were so great that I knew it would make a good salt! Spicy Cocoa Espresso Flavored Salt works on just about anything, but I especially love it on steak, beef, pork, or vegetables. It is vegetarian, gluten free, vegan and dairy free (if you use a cocoa without milk solids). While it is wonderful for grilling and BBQ, you can sprinkle it on anything like eggs, bread, and more!
This salt is very easy to make! Literally just put the ingredients in a food processor, pulse, and you are done! You can use it right away if you want, but the flavors do develop more if you are able to let it sit for a day or longer. It is best to use a small food processor to ensure the blade can reach the ingredients and get a good blend. But a larger food processor works as well. If you do not have a food processor, you can stir it in a small bowl, it will just take a little longer to make sure it is well incorporated.
Place all of the ingredients in a small food processor. (You can also use a large food processor, or mix by hand in a small bowl).
Pulse until the ingredients are well combined. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Put the seasoned salt in a small jar or empty spice container. Use on your favorite meats, vegetables, and more as you would a salt.
Notes
To ensure a truly vegan salt, use cocoa powder without any milk solids. This salt is great on many foods, but is best on beef and pork.It is best to use a small food processor to ensure the blade can reach the ingredients, although a larger one will still work.I love to use jars like this to store the flavored salts in, but you can also use empty spice containers.  These jars would fit approximately half of one batch of salt.

Hi, Technically this will never really expire! The flavor intensity will diminish overtime like dried spices. It should be good for a few years but best within one year.
What is the shelf life of the flavored salt?
