Sprinkled the chopped cranberries across the butter.

Break up the goat cheese into crumbles and spread across the butter.

Also add the rosemary, a big pinch of salt, and a big pinch of cinnamon. Use as much or little salt and cinnamon as desired.

Drizzle with the honey across the butter.

Serve with dunkers like our No-Knead Rustic Rosemary Bread, crackers, or apples.

Modifications and Substitutions

Cranberries – Fresh or frozen are best as they will bring a tartness. You can used dried, but they will be much sweeter.

Goat Cheese – Feta is a great substitute.

Rosemary – Fresh is best, but dried can work, just make sure it is chopped finely and use much less. Thyme is a great substitute.

Kim’s Tips

No need to make the butter an even layer. Leaving some dimension (shallow and high parts) looks great and lets people be more selective about how much they want.

Rustic, dense breads are best as they are less likely to tear or be smashed when dunking into the butter.

FAQs

What is a butter board?

A butter board is butter that has been spread across a board or plate and then sprinkled with various toppings and flavors.

How to eat a butter board?

To eat the butter board, scoop the butter and toppings with a dunker like crackers, bread, fruit, or vegetables. Choose your dippers based on the flavor profile and what will pair well!

Does a butter board use salted or unsalted butter?

I prefer to use unsalted butter as you can add exactly as much salt as you want, especially considering other ingredients sprinkled on top and how salty they are. But either type of butter will work fine.

Can a butter board be made in advance?

Yes. Simply assemble and refrigerate. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving for butter to slightly soften.
Make sure it is covered in the refrigerator so it does not dry out.
