Why You Will Love This Recipe

This fun Nightmare Before Christmas recipe only requires 3 ingredients and are fun for kids to get involved with!

Decorate each cookie with Jack Skellington’s face, or a variety of his faces as you see here! My niece Sadie is a NBC lover and did the amazing artwork you see here on the faces!

A great sweet appetizer or dessert snack for a party or movie night.

Ingredients

Here is what you need for this recipe:

  • Bright White Candy Melts
  • Oreos
  • Black Icing

Bright White Candy Melts – These can easily be found online and in craft stores. The bright white ensures they do not have a yellow tint.

Black Icing – It is easiest to use a black icing that already has a decorating tip on the bag or tube. This makes it easy to use without putting into a new bag.

Equipment

To make the recipe, you will need:

  • Medium Bowl (glass is best as it is microwave safe)
  • Forks
  • Parchment Paper

Instruction Overview

Melt the candy melts per package directions.

Cover one cookie in the white at a time by putting it in the chocolate, using forks to coat it, and then pick it up with a fork and tap on the bowl rim to shake off the excess candy melt.

Lay on a sheet of parchment to harden while you repeat with the remaining cookies.

After they are completely dry, use the black icing to draw the faces on each cookie. Use as many variations of his face that you like from the photos here or online searches!

Let dry before storing in an air tight container for up to 2 weeks.

Substitutions and Modifications

White chocolate could work as a swap for candy melts, but is not recommended as-is. White chocolate is more difficult and daring to melt. And if you do get it melted, it has a yellow hue. To combat this, add a little bright white food gel to get rid of the yellow tint.

Kim’s Tips

Be careful not to overheat the candy melts. If you use too high of a power level or cook too long, it starts to harden in a way that is extremely difficult to salvage.

It is best to store the cookies in a single layer to prevent the face pieces from getting stuck to other cookies or coming off. You can also use layers of parchment between layers of cookies to help if you do need to stack them.

Keep the cookies in a cool place to prevent the chocolate and icing from warming.

FAQs

Can I use white chocolate for candy coated Oreos?

Can you make chocolate covered Oreos without a mold?

Yes! I simply dip and tap off the excess as you will see in the instructions.

How far in advance can I make chocolate covered Oreos?

They last 2-3 weeks in an airtight container which makes them perfect to make in advance!

Do chocolate dipped cookies need to be refrigerated?

No, they are fine at room temperature as long as it is not too warm where the chocolate and icing starts to melt.
