Why You Will Love This Recipe
This Copycat Red Robin Bleu Ribbon Burger recipe elevates the popular restaurant classic with a high quality and large beef patty alongside the classic and delicious toppings.
Layered with tangy bleu cheese, spicy chipotle mayo, and crispy onion strings on a toasted but with lettuce and tomato, this beef burger is a great way to enjoy the restaurant favorite at home!
Ingredients
Hamburger Buns – I like to use Brioche buns.
Ground Beef
Large Egg
Garlic Powder
Panko Breadcrumbs
Worcestershire Sauce
Liquid Smoke – the addition of this brings an amazing, deep flavor but is NOT overpowering. If you do not have it, you can use more Worcestershire.
Blue Cheese Crumbles
Steak Sauce
Crispy Onion Straws – you can either make these at home or just buy them. I use the same kind that I use for a green bean casserole!
Tomato
Lettuce – I LOVE shredded lettuce on a burger as it is so much easier to eat, and a great texture. The restaurant uses shredded lettuce, but you do you and serve it up however you like.
Chipotle Aioli – a slightly spicy chipotle mayonnaise. Very easy to make at home, but you can also find it in the stores.
Salt
Black Pepper
Instruction Overview
Shred the lettuce and slice the tomato.
Prepare the chipotle mayo by mixing mayonnaise with finely chopped chipotle peppers in adobo, lime juice, garlic powder, and salt. Adjust the heat to your preference, and refrigerate until needed. (This tastes best when it has had time to chill!).
Toast the buns on the grill until golden brown. Use a thin layer of butter if desired to help them brown.
Make your beef patties in alarge bowl by combining the ground beef with an egg, Panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder,
Shape the meat into your desired patty size. Images here represent three burgers per pound. Go smaller for more of a restaurant size, or larger if you want a big patty!
Grill Instructions: Preheat grill to medium heat. Oil the grill to help prevent sticking. Add your patties and grill on the first side for 4-5 minutes. Flip. Grill the patties to your desired doneness.
Skillet Instructions: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a little vegetable oil (helps with browning). Add your patties and cook for 4-5 minutes until browned. Flip. Continue cooking as needed based on your desired doneness (anywhere from 2-5 minutes longer).
To assemble, take a bottom half of a bun and add the crisp onion straws. Top it with the beef patty.
Add the steak sauce and then add bleu cheese crumbles on top.
Finish with the lettuce and tomato.
Spread the chipotle mayo on the top bun and add to the burger. You are ready to eat!
Assemble the Burger: Spread chipotle mayo on the top half bun. On the bottom bun, place a handful of crispy onion strings, then the grilled patty with melted bleu cheese, followed by tomato slices and shredded lettuce. Top with the other half of the bun.
Serve: Serve the burger with steak fries or your favorite side dish.
Kim’s Tips
While I LOVE a grilled burger, I find a burger cooked in a skillet to get great color (color=flavor!) and be somewhat easier to cook. (No burgers getting stuck or falling into the grill!). Use any cooking style as desired.
Modifications and Substitutions
You can use any beef patty recipe or pre-made option as desired. But this is my FAVORITE classic burger recipe to make!
You can make thin patties by splitting the beef mixture into 6 instead of 3. Cook the same but for about 2 minutes per side instead of 4-5. Thin patties are great for getting extra color (flavor!) and/or adding multiple layers. Or just for having smaller portions.
FAQs
What was on the Bleu Ribbon burger?
Is 145 degrees safe for burgers?
Does blue cheese melt?
The crumbles on a burger will soften from the heat of the patty. If desired, you can add the crumbles on top when the burger is in the last minute of cooking to help the cheese melt further.
